Does Simon Cowell have veneers, and did he change his smile in 2020? Those two questions drive most searches for Simon Cowell teeth. The answer comes from the press, not from Cowell: in October 2020 Hello magazine reported that he had a new set of veneers described as more natural, and in April 2022 it stated that he has veneers. Cowell has not described the work in an interview.
In this article from Prof Clinic we look at what Hello, The Sun and others reported, what Cowell meant by going “a bit too far”, whether veneers can be whitened later and how long they last.
What Has Been Reported About Simon Cowell’s Teeth?
In October 2020 Cowell shared a photo with his cosmetic dentist, Dr Michael Apa, and Hello reported that he had been given a set of veneers described as more natural while recovering from a bike accident. In April 2022 Hello added that Cowell has worked with Apa since 2019 to make his smile look more natural.

The earliest baseline is a photograph from 1994, which The List describes as showing his original teeth discoloured and slightly crooked. Hello also reports that he lost a tooth eating peanut brittle in early 2022. None of these reports comes with a statement from Cowell about what treatment he had.
Was His “A Bit Too Far” Remark About His Teeth?
No. In April 2022 Cowell told The Sun, “There was a stage where I might have gone a bit too far”, and NBC San Diego reported that he was referring to face fillers, which he says he has stopped using. It was not about his smile.
Are Simon Cowell’s Teeth Veneers, and Can Veneers Be Whitened Later?
Hello states that Cowell has veneers, and that report is where the claim comes from. We have left out dentists’ opinions on his photos, because a photo shows what a smile looks like, not why.

Can Veneers Be Whitened or Changed Later?
Not by whitening. The American Dental Association states that whitening will not work on caps, veneers, crowns or fillings, and the NHS says it can only lighten the colour of natural teeth. A porcelain veneer is also permanent, because enamel is removed to place it, so changing its shade means replacing it. A composite veneer is easier to fix but not as stain- or wear-resistant. In practice this means three steps:
- If you want your own teeth lighter, whiten them first. The NHS says whitening isn’t permanent and, with your dentist’s advice, can last around three years.
- Agree the shade with your dentist before the veneers are made, because the ADA says choosing it is part of the treatment.
- Look after the result: the ADA advises limiting coffee, tea and red wine.

How Is a Veneer Shade Chosen, and How Long Do Veneers Last?
The ADA says every veneer process includes picking the colour shade that matches your natural teeth, with your dentist’s help. Porcelain veneers are strong, long-lasting and natural-looking, in the ADA’s words, while composite veneers may need less enamel removed and fewer visits.
The Cleveland Clinic puts the results of porcelain veneers at about five to 15 years, and professional whitening at six months to three years, depending on the procedure and how well you look after your teeth and gums. The ADA adds that a veneer can chip, crack, wear down or loosen, and that cavities can still form under or around it. That is why brushing with fluoride toothpaste twice a day, cleaning between your teeth daily and keeping up your check-ups matter after treatment.
Choose the person doing the work with the same care. The ADA warns that veneers placed by unlicensed individuals carry risks of infection and nerve damage, and that an unlicensed provider may place them over unhealthy teeth.

Prof Clinic: Hollywood Smile in Istanbul, Turkey
Our Hollywood Smile treatments in Turkey are planned from 3D imaging and digital smile design, and E-max or zirconia veneers and whitening are done at the same clinic, so your case isn’t passed between providers. Our coordination team answers your questions on WhatsApp and handles follow-up once you’re home. Before recommending anything, we check:
| Factor | What we assess | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Shade | The colour of your natural teeth and the shade you want | A veneer’s shade is fixed once it is bonded, so it is agreed before the veneers are made |
| Natural teeth | Whether whitening your own teeth should come first | Whitening lightens natural teeth only, so it is done before the veneers are matched |
| Bite and grinding | How your teeth meet and whether you clench at night | Heavy grinding can chip or loosen veneers, and a deep overbite can rule them out |
| Gums and decay | Gum health and cavities, on examination and X-ray | Both are treated before anything is bonded on |
Every case is different, so we plan each one separately. If you’d like our opinion on your own mouth, send an X-ray or photos through our contact page, or see real cases in the Before & After gallery.
Simon Cowell’s Teeth: Your Questions Answered
1. Does Simon Cowell have veneers?
Hello states that he does, and he shared a photo with his cosmetic dentist, Dr Michael Apa, in October 2020. Cowell hasn’t described the work in an interview.
2. Did Simon Cowell soften his smile?
Hello reports that since 2019 he has worked with Apa to make his smile look more natural, and described the October 2020 set as more natural. Cowell has not said more.
3. Can veneers be whitened later?
No. The ADA says whitening will not work on veneers, so a different shade means new veneers.
4. How long do veneers last?
The Cleveland Clinic puts porcelain veneer results at about five to 15 years. The ADA notes that a veneer can chip, crack or loosen, so regular check-ups matter.
