- A dental implant is a long-term solution to replace a missing tooth. A titanium dental implant is a small screw placed into the jawbone, acting as a stable, durable artificial tooth root. This foundation supports a dental crown, bridge, or denture, so the restoration can look, feel, and function much like a natural tooth. The implant usually needs about 3–6 months to fuse with the bone (osseointegration) before the final restoration is fitted.
- An implant can be placed immediately, in the same session as the tooth extraction, when the bone allows it, or months later once the area has healed. If a long time has passed and bone density has reduced, bone grafting (also called bone augmentation) may be needed to provide stability.

Subperiosteal Implants (For Weak Bone)
When the jawbone is not strong enough for endosteal implants, subperiosteal dental implants are placed under the gum but above the bone. This method avoids drilling deep into the jaw and is sometimes considered for patients who cannot undergo bone grafting. Treatment usually takes a few months, and your dentist will confirm whether it suits your case.
Same-Day Implants (Immediate-Load)
Looking for a faster option? With same-day implants, a temporary crown or bridge can often be attached within 24–48 hours, depending on your case. The implants still need about 3–6 months to fuse with the bone, after which the temporary prosthesis is replaced with the final crown or bridge. Immediate loading is not suitable for everyone: it depends on your bone quality and the stability of the implants, which your dentist confirms during treatment.

The dentist examines your mouth, reviews your medical history and takes X-rays or a CT scan. These show the bone volume and the position of nerves and sinuses.
The number, size and position of the implants are planned on the scan. If the bone is not sufficient, bone grafting may be recommended first.
Under local anesthesia, the titanium implant is placed in the jawbone. In some cases a temporary crown can be attached on the same day, depending on implant stability.
The implant usually needs about 3–6 months to fuse with the bone. During this time you follow the aftercare instructions and attend check-ups.
Once the implant is stable, a connecting part called an abutment is fitted. A digital scan or impression is then taken to make the final crown or bridge.
The final crown, bridge or denture is fitted and the bite is checked. Good oral hygiene and regular check-ups help keep the implant and gums healthy.
